10Tb drives not showing up

Featured Replies

So I shucked a couple 10TB drives I bought at Bestbuy. I installed one into my unraid server, booted and nothing showed up anywhere. All I wanted to do was  a good pre-clear.

So I tried the other drive and same thing. Nothing would show up. Has this been anykind of issue? Of course I have rebooted the server, so my diag logs won't tell me much. I was just a little bumfounded since every drive I've always installed has showed up.

3.3v reset issue? Sounds like it could be that. There are many ways around that particular problem. Just Google it.

I never have that problem with shucked drives because hotswap bays are powered by Molex, but if you are connecting via SATA cable with a shucked drive, that could be the issue and you will need one of the remedies.

It is being installed in a Norco Server case and all the backplanes are connected with the molex power adapter.

UPDATE: Well, that was it. I put a self stick piece of paper on that 3.3 connector and the drive shows up. Glad I got that resource from you.

I have the same case as you and had the same problem with 8 TB WD White drives that I shucked from external WD cases. Was surprised to find that with this case, as they are powered by molex.

I recommend getting a roll of Kapton tape, much less risk of something getting damaged.
