I’ve been using UnRaid for about a month now, and have been pleased with the system. Briefly, I have a Norco 4224 enclosure with a Supermicro X*SIL mobo and two Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 controllers. The array has 13 disks plus a cache, all 2TB, a mix of WD, Seagate and Hitachi. So far so good.

My problem arises from the use of the Dune Explorer (DE) application to perform cataloging and sysnopsis/image prep for display on two Duneplayers. My usual process is to rip DVDs and BDs to a local disk and catalog them them there, before transferring nightly to the Tower. This process works fine when I do the prep on the PC but I’ve run into cases where I need to redo the cataloging for some reason reasons (perhaps a typo or whatever), so I then point the DE at the appropriate folder(s) in the Movies share on the Tower. DE reads the directory structure fine and displays everything OK. I can change the synopsis text or the image(s) for a movie but then I cannot write the modified files back to the share. As far as I can see the share permissions are set up correctly on the Tower (Export read/write for SMB).

I’m wondering if there might be a mismatch of some sort between the file permissions on the Linux side and those on the Windows side.

Any guidance/pointers on where to start looking would be much appreciated.
