Keeping info on old disk?

Featured Replies

Hi all!

Just got my server up and running.  Quick question:

I have an old 1TB disk I would like to use, but would like to keep the data on it.  Is there anyway to get it in the server and running without a complete format?

Thanks!

Short answer... probably not. Not as part of the unRAID protected array.

Longer answer.  unRAID expects its disks to have a single partition starting in sector 63 and extending for the entire disk.  It expects a reiserfs file system.  It expects a completely empty master boot record otherwise.  If you old disk meets EXACTLY those criteria it MIGHT be possible.

You can always mount and access its data outside of the unRAID protected array.  two differetn unRAID add-ons could help (SNAP or unMENU) or you can do it all on the command line yourself as described in the wiki:
