February 21, 20206 yr Currently have added a disk controller to may array server, with capacity of 8tb 4 slots, added 3 disk @ 6tb, 1tb and 6tb...as each additional disk was added I keep getting a rebuild on disk 5 after preclear is finished on newly installed disk, the rebuild is averaging 2.8mb/s need to know if this is normal or if there is a fix. Also during the rebuild unable to play movies on the Plex server. Currently disk 5 is being rebuilt with error, disk 6 okay running fine no error, disk 7 running good but with errors. When I originally installed disk 5 I had to do a rebuild, but it took only 17hour @ about 98mb/s.
February 21, 20206 yr Go to Tools-diagnostics and attach the complete Diagnostics zip file to your NEXT post
February 21, 20206 yr You are getting continual resets on the disk being rebuilt and also less frequently on disk7 which explains the slow speed. I would carefully check the cabling to these two drives as the most likely cause.
February 21, 20206 yr Author Its a single cable to a single sata interface, with currently no problem with disk 6....
February 21, 20206 yr The 6 or 10 ports controller you're using is in fact a 2 port controller with SATA port multipliers, they are a known problem, you'll need to replace it to get rid of those timeout errors.
February 21, 20206 yr Author what do you recommend replacing the controller, or SATA port multiplier, and can you recommend a better replacement???
February 21, 20206 yr The controller includes the SATA multiplier, replace it with any LSI with a SAS2008/2308/3008/3408 chipset in IT mode, e.g., 9201-8i, 9211-8i, 9207-8i, 9300-8i, 9400-8i, etc and clones, like the Dell H200/H310 and IBM M1015, these latter ones need to be crossflashed.
February 27, 20206 yr Author Thanks for the recommendation, but I'm looking for a controller card/cable that would support a eSata external enclosure sy-enc50104, please advise.
February 27, 20206 yr There's no recommended controller to use an eSATA enclosure with port multiplier.
March 2, 20206 yr Author why am I stuck on verifying DMI pool..and can't get to BIOS....plex server in loop
March 2, 20206 yr eSata external enclosure is not really supported and will give you problems like you're getting As johnnie mentioned, you need a proper SAS controller If you don't want issues or problems, use recommended / supported hardware
March 2, 20206 yr Author okay thanks but this a different concern...why am I stuck on verifying DMI pool..and can't get to BIOS....plex server in loop
March 2, 20206 yr 2 hours ago, hermsnross said: why am I stuck on verifying DMI pool. That likely a bios/hardware issue, clear CMOS and disconnect/remove anything attached to the board, if it boots like that then start reconnecting stuff.
