December 12, 201015 yr Hi there, Stupidly, I don't have a UPS (will be purchased) and we had a power outage yesterday. I've recovered the system by creating a new 4.5.6 on a fresh USB key, then taking the following files from my previous key (config, packages, unmenu, smarthistory). Everything seems to back to normal, except Unraid goes "offline" about every 5-10 minutes or so for about a minute. When I say "offline", I mean that I no longer have access to the shares, and when I go to //tower, etc. IE cannot display page. If I wait a minute or so, it's back up. I have not run a parity check but will do so tonight. Another oddity is that there are times that the mainpage is working from Unraid, but the unmenu page is not found. Syslog attached. Thanks for any advice and direction you can provide! syslog-2010-12-11.txt

December 12, 201015 yr Update...ran parity check last night with no errors. I also tried removing the unmenu,packages/smarthistory directory and the problem persists. I saw nothing in the syslog. I'd look more closely at the router. It might be rebooting itself again and again... or... another device on the LAN might be spewing forth garbage (noise) on the LAN blocking other communications. I'm uncertain why you "recovered" by creating a new USB key. There should not have been a need to do anything except reboot. Joe L.
December 14, 201015 yr Author Hi Joe, you were right, something was amiss with my router so I've reset it and shut all wireless devices down (Rokus). That seemed to have done the trick and things are stable again. As for your other question, for some reason a re-boot resulted in a flashing cursor at the top left of the screen, no Unraid would load. I assumed it was a corrupt key. I've upgraded it with a better quality key as well. Thanks again for steering me straight. cheers

I've upgraded it with a better quality key as well. Your original key was probably fine. The boot order may have gotten reset so the flash drive would not stay set up as the primary boot device. Some boards are better at remembering these types of settings than others.
December 16, 201015 yr Author Yes, I think you're right there, that's exactly what happened. Oh well, needed a quality key and a UPS anyway!
