Dual X5650 vs i5-3470

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,

Long time Unraid user.  Currently running on i5-3470 with 16gb of Ram.  Box is used for storage and Plex for the most part.

I was just given an R720 with Dual X5650's and 96gb of RAM.  I know I will lose quicsync, but any reason not to make the switch?  I plan on gutting the RAM and CPU from the server and putting it into an EATX case with a supermicro board.

Thanks!

You will lose single thread performance and gain a bunch of cores and RAM. If you don't plan to change the role of the server and add a bunch of other duties, I don't see the point in changing.
