help needed. Hardware recommendations

Featured Replies

Hi there everyone,

This is my first post and i have been following unraid for a while and so many features id like to use and currently in the process of upgrading my servers( not really a server i7-2600k). currently only running plex on my server/computer with hyper-v for other software like sonarr, raddar, ombi and jacket. Also using my machine for storage but no backups whats so ever. Using as well for my 3tb launchbox frontend build and last, using it from time to time to game on it but i have to disable my hyperv and plex since it does have a decent drain on the system.

Currently looking at AMD systems since they seem to outperform intel for the price but i'm not against any brands.

So here is what id like to do with my system and what would be your recommendations:

-Plex

-sonarr

-radarr

-ombi

-VPN(open vpn, ipsec etc.....) for my thin clients and rds sessions

-back ups: id like more than 30 drives long term if more than 1 array is possible.

-disk shelf (longterm)

-Launchbox front end (3tb build)

-gaming

-game servers for local friends( CS:GO, 7 days to die, ARK, unreal tournament etc...) running at the same time not more than 2 or 3 at the same time.

-multiple vms ( 5 basic hardware sessions) that can use 1 video card for plex transcoding and/or multiple rds sessions

-Some video editing and streaming (short term to long term) with elgato 4k cards

there is more id like to do long-term but can think about right now.

i'm somewhat tech savvy and never really had commercial hardware which i'd like to have long term.id love to have a full rack of u4 + chassis top to bottom of in my basement :P

not sure if i should go with basic consumer hardware or server hardware like xeon or epyc processors

any help will be very welcomed.
