February 26, 20206 yr Hi all, I moved from xpenology to unraid few days ago. Everything is fine exept boot. Every time I reboot my machine it simply doesn't start. It's because usb key is not recognized as a boot device from the bios. But maybe is something related to unraid too because if I remove unraid usb and add xpenology key the issue disappears. The only issue that I found at the moment is this: https://www.dell.com/community/PowerEdge-Hardware-General/PowerEdge-T20-Won-t-Boot-USB-Stick-From-Select-USB-Ports/m-p/5130999#M52123 But It's not reliable because my setup is normally without monitor and keyboard and because in case off black out my server will stay offilne ! Did anyone has a better solution? Edited March 9, 20206 yr by Jokerigno
February 26, 20206 yr Community Expert Check in the Dell's BIOS and see what you have selected for the Boot options: Make sure you have selected the Unraid USB device for booting and which Boot Mode (Legacy or UEFI) is selected. (You can set the Unraid boot drive to operate in either Boot Mode.)
February 26, 20206 yr Author The unraid key is the only device selected with UEFI mode on. I noticed that if I plug a keyboard the server starts (!) but can't found in BIOS how to untick this option.

February 26, 20206 yr My T20 has always booted unraid perfectly from USB with no keyboard or monitor. It has the E3-1225 V3 CPU with igp. The usb stick is in the USB2 ports on rear panel. The ones flagged with S are USB3 super speed which can cause issues in some cases so I avoid them for boot. Can you temporarily connect a monitor so you can see what happens at boot.
February 29, 20206 yr Author I tried also with rear ports, the upper and the lower. But no luck. The only thing is that if I switch usb port I have to redo the action in bios creating usb key uefi. I tried also upgrading bios to last fw available. I always see the blank screen until I add the keybord. Then suddenly appears the grub page for starting unraid!
February 29, 20206 yr May I suggest trying enabling Legacy Option Rom under advanced boot options and possibly also switching the boot mode to Legacy under Boot Sequence/Boot List Options? I have had overall better luck booting unRaid in Legacy with my config. I found a similar topic on the T20 that suggested it might (Oddly) help your problem. Worth a shot.
