March 9, 20206 yr I'm looking for some advice on a suitable GPU for my setup - I'm ready to buy but have already made a mistake once, so dont want to do the same again! The aim will be to run a Windows 10 VM for gaming, as well as a Mac VM for day to day work. These will only ever be used one at a time, so I thought a single graphics card would be fine for this? More on this below though... My current hardware: asus x470 prime x470-pro motherboard 16GB 3200 RAM Ryzen 2700 CPU Dell PERC H310 I initially thought an RX 5700 would be a good fit and so bought one of those, but stupidly didn't do much research. I still have it, but its ready to be returned. I've so far been unable to get it to work, and then realised I could only run Catalina on it (I have some 32 bit apps I need to run so Mojave/High Sierra would be preferable). So my questions: Would something like a used 1070 ti or 1080 be a better option? Looks like I could get one of these for a similar cost to the 5700 I bought. Would 2 GPUs be an option? An Nvidia card for the Windows VM and and older AMD card (assuine compatibility is better with older cards) for the Mac VM? I wasn't sure how this would effect my PCIE bandwidth as I've never ran multiple cards before, plus I've considered getting a 1TB NVME for the VM drive. Would I have bandwidth for this/what impact would it have on the primary cards performance? Alternatively if anyone has had success getting a 5700 working maybe I could make that work and find a solution for 32 bit apps in Catalina? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
