ombraweb
I built a new server, precleard the drives, set up the shares. Everything went find no problems at all. Then I started copying 800GB to the server over the network. It started ok but after a few hours the system crashed into a kernel panic. Everything went find before the copying, then after the error I tested the memory 3 times. Nothing, no errors and no problems. All parts except a few drives are brand new. So what is going on? What is most likely root of the problem? I cannot afford to swap parts one at a time so I need a cheap way to figure out the problem. Link to comment

(a picture of the screen perhaps) What version of unRAID are you running? (The most recent rc2 fixes a kernel oops) Joe L. Link to comment
ombraweb
I attempted to capture the panic, but the dam pic did not turn out :-( The version I am using is 4.5.6 as that is what came on the stick when I bought it. My currect plan is to wait for a parity check, then I will load up SMART software and duble check the drives. Shuld upgrading fix the problem? normally I do not use RC on my working server but if it would correct the issue I would be willing. Link to comment

Updating to the newest version may fix the problem, if not... then something else is causing the computer to kernel panic. Link to comment
ombraweb
Thanks I will try updating. But is there a guide to how to update? Link to comment
Joe L.
Thanks I will try updating. But is there a guide to how to update? The "guide" is in every release notification. See here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=9394.0 For your version, download the new release. Un-zip it on your PC. Copy two files to the root of your flash drive bzroot, and bzimage. You can first rename the existing two files to bzroot.456 and bzimage.456 in case you want to revert for any reason. You can access the files by putting \\tower\flash in your window's file explorer. You don't need to unplug the flash drive from the server if you want to do it all over the LAN. Then, Stop the array by pressing "Stop" on the web-management console, and reboot. That's it. Occasionally there is a newer version of the memory test. Then you can also copy memtest to your flash drive. For this release there is no change in that file, so therefore, only the two files are involved. OOps. I was wrong... there was a new version of memtest in one of the release-candidates. Tom did update memtest to 4.1 during the "rc" releases, and assume that version is in 4.6 (I forgot myself to update memtest! ) Changes from 4.6-rc2 to 4.6-rc3 ------------------------------- Other: - More unRaid driver/3rd part add-on backward-compatibility fixes. - Update 'hdparm' to version 9.27 - Update 'smartmontools' to version 5.39.1 - Update 'memtest' to version 4.10 [Note: you will need to move the file 'memtest' from the zip file to the root of your Flash device] Link to comment
