Swapping SAS for SATA

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

Running Unraid 6.7.2 on a Poweredge R620, mostly for Plex. It came with some SAS drives, but I'm having trouble finding large (1TB+) SAS HDDs in the 2.5" form factor that I need to expand my memory. According to the documentation, my controller can actually run SAS or SATA, so I'm thinking it would be easier (and cheaper long-term) to use SATA drives instead.

Problem: I already uploaded ~1.1TB of media to the server.

Is there any way to keep this data while I swap out the hard disks in the array? Or should I just back it all up somewhere (I have a few very large drives on my PC) and copy it back to the server once the array is rebuilt with the new HDDs?
