Stuck on Clearing 0%

Featured Replies

Sorry to post again tonight.  Hope this is nothing.  I started the clear on a new drive about 40 minutes ago and it says Starting, clear 0% complete...

Is it stuck or doing something?  How do I tell?

Try clicking refresh or just refresh your browser.  The page doesn't update live IIRC.

I've been trying that.  It slowly moved off of 0% and is now at 38% after 12 hours.  I don't remember clearing taking this long before, but this is my first 2TB that's not the parity drive.

That does sound longer than expected.

You might post a syslog, or at least look at it yourself to see of errors are occurring.

Thanks.  Attached is the syslog.

Out of curiosity, what steps does unraid automatically go through after clearing?

To update on this status, I'm currently at 81% but getting lots of spindown errors.  Might be a problem with the cables or the Samsung F4 drive.  I wonder if I should just bag this drive and start over with something new.  Any suggestions?

The array will start.  You'll then see the new drive as "Unformatted" in the display and you'll be presented with a "Format" button.

You'll need to click on it to format the disk.  (Takes a few minutes or less) once formatted it will be available for use.

Thanks.

So, it won't automatically do a parity sync since it's a new disk and theoretically set everything to zero?

Thanks.

It will not do a parity sync.  It is performing the zeroing on the newly installed drive so it would not have to do a parity sync.

This finished clearing after close to 22 hours.  Not it's in the formatting stage which from what I read should take 5 minutes or so.  Mine's taking longer.  I've posted a screenshot, but as you can see disk7 and parity are both reading and writing.  Does this number have to get up to 30Mil similar to the clearing process?

Never mind, just finished and array looks good.  I'm going to run parity check now.
