SATA connected HDD dock

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone has found a good eSata/Sata connected hard drive dock? My case is full, and I am slowly upgrading drives. It would be very nice to have an external dock so I can pre-clear drives ahead of time. I have a USB one, but it was pre-reading at 25mb/sec and it was I realized it's far too slow for pre-clearing large drives.

What I'd like to do is glue a drive dock to the top of my case and just run a Sata cable down through a small hole. I could also use an eSATA dock with a port converter card. I guess I could also just get a USB 3 card and do it that way.

Does anyone have any experience with something suitable that you could recommend?

You definitely don't want to do that for a drive in the array or cache pool. It might or might not work well for preclearing and as Unassigned Device, but often USB won't pass the SMART information so maybe not.

I've been using this for Unassigned Devices for years:

I'm just looking for a pre-clear "slot", so the external should be OK. This eSATA plate with a SATA cable is exactly what I think I'm going to do.

Thanks for the input!
