Recommended PCIe-card with 4-port SATA for my N40L Microserver?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

Recently dug out my old HP ProLiant N40L Microserver from storage. Updated to 6.8.3 and flashed the BIOS. I can't remember doing it but I had bought a 2-port SATA PCIE card because it was in the box. I've since learned in another thread that this card will be slow and a bottle neck.

Question now is, does anyone know of a card that offers 4 ports of SATA 3, that will fit and work with my N40L and unraid?

I'm really a beginner with all this and trying to learn as much as possible, but please talk to me like I'm a dum dum... 😂

This is what the backside looks like.

Similar situation but getting a Microserver Gen10+ - want to run an internal NVME and eSATA USB harddrive enclosure - based on Marvel being bad would this work for the cache and to make one eSATA port - IOCrest SI-PEX50069 M.2 NGFF SDD + SATA III Port PCIe x1 Controller Card

Hmmm - I only have one PCIe slot and was looking for something to do a WD Black SN750 M.2 2280 and really just one SATA port I can covert to eSATA to use a Media ProBox I have - if I had to choose would pick a supported M.2 card and can do USB on the hard drive enclosure.

But the SATA needs to support Multi device.

Difficult (if not impossible) to find NVMe + one SATA in the same controller, there are dual NVMe + SATA m.2 adapters, but the SATA m.2  requires an available SATA port on the board or other controller.

I'm so confused - so I have a WD Black or Samsung EVO I would like to use on the HP Microserver Gen 10+.  There is only one PCIe Slot and needs to be low profile.   I would just be happy to have that working with 4 disks in the server.   I think they are NVME cards

hi guys.

i would like to have some more SATA ports on my N54L server. in another post i wrote about using the eSATA-SATA port to add a new internal hdd (maybe for os). the internal PCIe slot card could add a lot more ports. just 2!

I'm looking this card -- > https://tinyl.io/3GAq  and this more -- >  https://tinyl.io/3GAw. what do you think, will it work? do you have any advice?

here is my hardware -- > https://tinyl.io/3GAr

thanks.

Like I said in the other thread, I’ve got this card in my N40L and have had it working for almost a year without a problem.

yes I read other post, but there I ask for the cable, here for the internal pci-e card. the one you showed is very nice and especially good, but I don't want to spend so much money!
The one I try on Amazon has just two SATA ports, I don't need more.

question: do you think it will work properly?

ps. the bios of my server is original, can this be a problem?

thanks

I don't know if it will work. Since you run WHS and not unRAID. I only read that unRAID has problems with some chipsets in these cards, no idea with Windows.
