b0m541
Hi all, to get rid of my Marvell-based HBA I looked into buying the Broadcom/LSI SAS 9300-8i HBA (https://www.broadcom.com/products/storage/host-bus-adapters/sas-9300-8i) (https://docs.broadcom.com/doc/12352000). My questions are, will it work in unRAID? would need to be flashed to IT mode? for the buck (roughly 230 EUR) is there anything better I could get? Thank you for helping out! B Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
It will work and it's IT mode only, so no need for flashing, though it might still need a firmware update if it's on a very old one, but that's very easy. like a BIOS update. As for the price it's about right for a new one, you might look on ebay for used server pulls, I got two some time ago for around $75 each, with cables. Quote Link to comment
b0m541
Thank you! I can get a used IBM ServeRAID M5110 8 Port 6G SASPCIe x8 Controller Raid: 0, 1, 10 for a low price from a reliable shop. I guess I would have to flash it to IT mode. Is that possible? Is the firmware and procedure available? Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Not sure, quick google search suggests a Megaraid controller, no IT mode: https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/ibm-serveraid-m5110-cross-flashing.657/ Quote Link to comment
