Assistance needed. Unable to load web management page

I built an UNRAID server about 5 to 6 years ago and I believe the version is the free version of either UNRAID 4 or 5.  I haven’t used the server for over 3 years due to different life circumstances.  About a month ago, I tried powering it up and the lights on the front of the server blinked but nothing else.  Since the server wasn’t powering up, I decided to upgrade the hardware (CPU, motherboard, ram, CPU fan, power supply) and reuse the old hard drives (2 drives for data, 1 drive used for parity) and reuse the UNRAID usb flash drive from the old server in hopes that I could then access my data.  I built the new server, connected the server to the router using an ethernet cable, turn the server on, enter root at the command line, enter ifconfig eth0 and received an IP address, the router also sees the server and I can also ping the server from my laptop but when I open either Internet Explorer or Chrome and either type in http://tower or http://ip address of the router, the web management page fails to load.

Other things I have tried:

·         Tried http://tower:8080 and http://IP address:8080 with no luck.

·         Tried UNRAID with safe mode but still cannot access the web management page

·

1.     Is there a command to check which version i have installed or can tell the version from the flash drive?

2.     Since it has been a long time since using UNRAID, is there a command I need to enter at the command line to initiate web management?

3.     Do you see there being any issues with upgrading the hardware mentioned above thats preventing me from accessing web management?

4.     Could the issue be that I am still on a free/old version of UNRAID?

5.     Can I upgrade from my UNRAID version from command line to the latest version and still access my old data?

6.     If I upload my log files, could someone have a look and maybe suggests some things i can try to be able to access my files?

syslog.txtHi trurl

I was not able to access the syslog using //tower/log/syslog but was able to using //10.0.1.11/log/syslog and I have attached it in my reply.

Kind Regards,

Ricky

Try changing your go file (/config/go) on the flash drive back to defaults (its not default right now) and then reboot.

It should be:

#!/bin/bash
# Start the Management Utility
/usr/local/sbin/emhttp &

Hi Squid,

Below is what I have in the /config/go file.  Are you asking for me to delete everything after /usr/local/sbin/emhttp &?

Also, when it comes to editing the go file, is it ok for me to plug the flash drive into a Windows 10 PC and editing the file using a text editor or is it best to edit using putty and vi text editor application?

#!/bin/bash
# Start the Management Utility
/usr/local/sbin/emhttp &
/boot/unmenu/uu
/boot/unmenu/uu

cd /boot/packages && find . -name '*.auto_install' -type f -print | sort | xargs -n1 sh -c

Cheers,
Ricky

Yes. The rest of that is unmenu and packages that unmenu installs. You will not be using any of that when you upgrade and it will be easier to troubleshoot what you have without a lot of extra stuff that has nothing to do with getting your server ready to upgrade.

And, here is the upgrade wiki for you to study while we wait on replies:

Hi Squid, trurl,

I tried changing my go file (/config/go) back to defaults as you suggested, reboot but did not fix the issue.  I also tried safe mode after making changes to the go file and that also did not help.

Also, when it comes to editing the go file, is it ok for me to plug the flash drive into a Windows 10 PC and editing the file using a text editor or is it best to edit using putty and vi text editor application?

I have attached screenshots when I try to access web management and me pinging the server.  Are there other suggestions I can try before I try upgrading to UnRaid 6?

Thank you,

Ricky

Hi Squid,

After I turn the UnRaid server on, logon as root, I get command not found after I type diagnostics and hit enter.

Hi Squid,

Thank you.  I also want to add that I recently moved and the server is connected to a different router.   The router does see the server and assigned IP address 192.168.86.30.

Edit the file /config/disk.cfg on the flash drive

Change startArray="yes" to be startArray="no" and reboot  (The syslog just stopped dead while it was trying to mount the drives)

This is what I would suggest.  Make a backup of the flash drive somewhere safe

Download https://s3.amazonaws.com/dnld.lime-technology.com/stable/unRAIDServer-6.8.3-x86_64.zip

Overwrite the bz* files on the flash drive with all the ones in the zip (you've only got 2, but there's 5 in the zip, and you need them all)

Edit /config/disk.cfg on the flash drive, and change startArray="yes" to be startArray="no"

If there's ANY file within /extra on the flash drive, delete them.

Reboot into safe mode.

IE: I really have no clue what's going on, and we'd need to get you onto 6.8 to figure this out, if only temporarily.

Hi Squid,

Am I copying only the files that start with bz* from the zip?  In total there are 10 bz* files.  There are 5 bz* files ending .sha256.  Do I also copy the folders?

In the /config/disk.cfg file, I only see:

# Disk configuration
spindownDelay=1

For future reference, here are your disk assignments from that syslog you posted:

Apr 2 21:28:36 Tower kernel: mdcmd (1): import 0 8,16 2930266532 TOSHIBA_DT01ACA300_Y32A1XJGS
Apr 2 21:28:36 Tower kernel: md: import disk0: [8,16] (sdb) TOSHIBA_DT01ACA300_Y32A1XJGS size: 2930266532
Apr 2 21:28:36 Tower kernel: mdcmd (2): import 1 8,32 2930266532 TOSHIBA_DT01ACA300_23DEPTDGS
Apr 2 21:28:36 Tower kernel: md: import disk1: [8,32] (sdc) TOSHIBA_DT01ACA300_23DEPTDGS size: 2930266532
Apr 2 21:28:36 Tower kernel: mdcmd (3): import 2 8,48 2930266532 TOSHIBA_DT01ACA300_23DEZDKGS
Apr 2 21:28:36 Tower kernel: md: import disk2: [8,48] (sdd) TOSHIBA_DT01ACA300_23DEZDKGS size: 2930266532

disk0 is parity, then disk1, disk2 are the only data disks, and there is no cache disk.

Is that correct?

Refer to the upgrade wiki I linked earlier. Do the 64bit test described in the beginning to make sure you can upgrade.

Report back.

Hi @trurl @Squid,

Thank you both for your help.  I followed the steps from Frank's short and sweet instructions from the upgrade page and now I can start the arrays, view the Shares from the Shares menu but there's no data in the shares (Data share.jpg).  I enabled export on all the shares and the only folder that contained files is the system share.  If I go to the Main menu, click on the view folder of either Disk 1 or Disk 2 (data.jpg), there's a data folder there that contains all my data (data 2.jpg).  How do I make this data folder accessible to the Data share folder?   Can I add a shortcut of the data folder to the Data share or is there something else I can do to make this data folder accessible?

Regards,

Ricky

All top level folders on cache or array disk are automatically user shares, whether or not you have explicitly created them.

You are going to have problems with 2 top level folders that have the same name except for upper/lower case.

Which should it be, Data or data? Do both have files in them? Are both on both disks?

Hi @trurl,

There is no files in the Data folder.  The Data folder is only on disk1 (disk1.jpg), where the data folder is on disk1 and disk2 (disk1.jpg and disk2.jpg).  I see that I can delete the Data share since there are not files in that share (Data share 2.jpg).  Do you think if I delete the Data share, would the data folder be accessible?

Ricky

Probably.

Another way would be to manually delete the Data folder from disk1, then stop and start the array. Looks like Data has default settings so I'm not sure it has a .cfg file in config/shares on flash. You should also clean that up, probably by deleting both .cfg files if they exist. Then the only share that will still exist is the data share, and it will have default settings until you change them, with no .cfg files leftover to confuse things in the future.

It does bring up the question of how these got created in the first place though. Did you create that Data share in the webUI? Or did something else create it? Using the wrong upper/lower case when specifying a path will often do this. This is very common when someone is setting up their dockers.

Hi @trurl,

I renamed the "Data" folder under Shares menu now the other "data" is now accessible.   Thank you so much for your time and help!

Ricky
