DieFalse
I rarely run VM's as most everything I do is in a docker, but ever since 6.8.3, my Linux, Win10 and Server 2012r2 lab VM's wont boot. They all go to the Bios, then boot splash then bios then boot splash loops. I built a new VM and it does the same. I can't seem to figure out why they are looping and not booting. Anyone else experience this or have guidance on where to start for troubleshooting? Quote Link to comment
Andrew Clarke
Sounds like a media issue. Have you assigned your ISO's to the VM to ensure that its booting from a correct ISO? That would be my starting point anyway. Quote Link to comment
DieFalse
Hi Andrew, When building the new, I did assign ISO's, but the existing VM's have IMG's that are assigned to them with the VirtIO Iso's still mounted Quote Link to comment
Andrew Clarke
Ok, have you checked the IMG's to ensure that there's no corruption? (If possible, big IF!, I would stop the array and try to mount the IMG files on a desktop PC to see whats within the containers just to see if there is any type of corruption). Not sure if Advanced Members on here have any other recommendations, but that would be where I'd look. I'd also check your VM boot configurations to ensure that they are booting to "disk0" in the first instance as well. Hope this is helpful. Quote Link to comment
DieFalse
There is no corruption, thankfully. This can be observed by not being able to boot into a new install of a new VM either. No VM or ISO will boot, just loops. Quote Link to comment
Andrew Clarke
Ok, that sounds like a dev issue which I don't think I can help with. I assume that by "loops" you get the "Tiano Core" boot screen to say that it at least see's a BIOS image to boot from? BACKUP BEFORE THIS STEP PLEASE!!!!!!! : Have you tried changing the BIOS on your VM from OVMF to SeaBIOS?. Wouldn't recommend changing this if you can help it as it may through a few headaches at you, but you could then see if its a programming issue or if its an issue with the configuration of the VM. Hope this helps. Many thanks Kind regards Quote Link to comment
testdasi
You need to copy-paste your VM xml here. (when copy-pasting text from Unraid, please use the forum code functionality - the </> button next to the smiley button - so the text is formatted correctly). Also describe exactly what you meant by "loops", preferably with screenshots. While you are at it, would be useful to attach diagnostics to any query. Tools -> Diagnostics -> attach zip file.
