General Disk Performance Question

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

Just a general question regarding performance I should be expecting from my array from both a read and write perspective.

I've a number of controllers in my ML350p Gen8 server:

P420i HBA Mode

LSI 2008 HBA Mode

H240 HBA Mode

Onboard SATA

I've run some benchmarking tests via the very nice 'DiskSpeed' docker and, for all my HDDs, I see around 190 - 206 MB/s (see attachment).

What is puzzling is that 'real-world' performance doesn't see transfer rates pushing above 50/60 MB/s even say moving data between my Cache drive (not shown) and array drives (Cache is SSD with over 250 MB/s rate.

Any ideas as to further tests or settings I should be looking at?

Thanks all

That's about right for default write mode, did you try turbo write?

P.S. one of your disks is showing some lower performance on the outer cylinders, is that repeatable?

Hello Johnnie.Black

Thanks for the reply.  The default write mode was set to auto so I've set it to the reconstruct write option (turbo).  I'll run the performance tests again.
