December 27, 201015 yr Guys, I'm thinking about changing out the MB / CPU in my uUraid box (asus p5q premium and core2 at 1.5ghz) to something that's better on the power consumption front (no issues at all with functionality with the current combo - in fact it's just the opposite, great!!). I'm thinking i3 530 for the CPU, but what motherboard? Thanks everyone! Jim

Though from what I have read the ATOM and i3 idle at about the same power consumption. Without knowing what your current setup idels at, starts up at, and what it reads when all disks are spinning it is a little hard to give recommendations. Frankly, I am of the mind that "if it aint broke don't fix it."
December 27, 201015 yr Author Thanks, yeah I like the idea of if it ain't broke don't fix it. I just can't help but think I can get below the 90 watts my machine idles at with it's 10 discs spun down. The p5q premium requires a video card so I'm sure that doesn't help. The mb has 8 sata ports and I have a 4 port pci-e sata card. Jim
December 27, 201015 yr Here was a recent post with power readings. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=9670.0 Expect to add a few watts for the extra drives and controller, like maybe 10W or so idle.
December 28, 201015 yr Is anyone running an Atom based unRAID? I am thinking of making my current box the backup, leaving it powered off and quiet most of the time, and building another quieter box that uses less power to stream movies from.
