Parity Errors on new install

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I'm running a brand new install of unRAID 6.8.3 on my existing hardware, a HP Microserver Gen8 with 2 x 3TB drives around 5 years old.

The initial parity check showed 600+ errors.  I subsequently ran a correctional parity check which completed earlier and found 347 errors.

Should I be concerned?  SMART status shows as healthy.

I've attached the diagnostics.

Thanks!

Disk1 had a bunch of read errors, it looks like a disk problem, you can run an extended SMART test to confirm.

Thanks.  I've just tried running the extended test and it gives the error "Errors occurred - Check SMART report".

Short self-test passes.

I've had a look at the SMART report (attached) but I don't really know what I'm looking for.  Any ideas?

The part that reads

SMART Extended Self-test Log Version: 1 (1 sectors)
Num Test_Description Status Remaining LifeTime(hours) LBA_of_first_error
# 1 Extended offline Completed: read failure 90% 8515 22306624
# 2 Extended offline Completed: read failure 90% 8515 22306624
# 3 Short offline Completed without error 00% 8515 -
# 4 Short offline Completed without error 00% 8460 -

shows that the disk is failing the extended SMART test and should probably be replaced.

Thank you very much.  Not great news as I am 1000s of miles away from the server but at least I don’t have any important data on there!
