Drive speeds and 10Gbe

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I’ve recently started with unraid and had a few questions, I’m starting to build a 10gbe network and was running some speeds tests on my drives(mixed brands but same capacity). I’m getting expected speeds on the drives but where I’m a bit confused is in the graph it says max throughput at 668MB s, if I had a 10gbe link is this the kinda speed I would expect to be able to achieve? At a later date I do plan to run two SSDs in raid 0 for better performance, with these SSDs would I expect to fully saturate the 10gbe link? Also why is the parity much faster? Also the HBA is only a 2gbs but will be replaced by a 6gbs one.

thanks

Unraid doesn't stripe data, it writes to a single disk (plus parity) so max write speed is the speed of the slowest disk involved (using turbo write).

Hi thanks for your reply, if that’s the case with my hdds 120mbs would be the speed. Also why is the parity so much faster?

It's likely a faster model, or the other ones are under performing.

The parity drive is brand new and the other ones are quite old so most likely they are under performing.

doing some transfers at the moment, all ISO’s, the speed sits at 120MBs then drops to about 35MBs. Anything I have mis-configured?
