Windows 10 VMS fails to boot | GPU passthrough | group 25 is not viable

Featured Replies

I have been following Spaceinvader Ones (SO) Youtube Videos second by second and tried everything he suggests to pass through my Zotac RTX 2060 to my Win 10 VM. With VPN everything works fine. With the pass through best I can come up with is the VM starts up, the card takes over the display (the login prompt of Unraid disappears), but the screen goes blank and the monitor goes into standby. (Do I have to have another card?)

I tried all the steps SO offers in

A little about Passthrough, PCIe, IOMMU Groups and breaking them up
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQiMMeVNw-o

First error I got:

Execution error

internal error: qemu unexpectedly closed the monitor: 2020-04-28T09:25:25.181211Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=0000:2d:00.0,id=hostdev0,bus=pci.0,multifunction=on,addr=0x5: vfio 0000:2d:00.0: group 25 is not viable Please ensure all devices within the iommu_group are bound to their vfio bus driver.

The offending group 25 is:

IOMMU group 25: [10de:1e89] 2d:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation TU104 [GeForce RTX 2060] (rev a1)
                [10de:10f8] 2d:00.1 Audio device: NVIDIA Corporation TU104 HD Audio Controller (rev a1)
                [10de:1ad8] 2d:00.2 USB controller: NVIDIA Corporation TU104 USB 3.1 Host Controller (rev a1)
                [10de:1ad9] 2d:00.3 Serial bus controller [0c80]: NVIDIA Corporation TU104 USB Type-C UCSI Controller (rev a1)

1) tried another PCI slot for the RTX, didn't change anything

2) tried:

append initrd=/bzroot vfio-pci.ids=10de:1e89,10de:10f8,10de:1ad8,10de:1ad9

locks up Unraid while booting, see

lockup.jpg.004f74db308e4d881838aeb0def53a9a.jpg

Although the system hangs there, I could access it via the browser, but starting the vm wouldn't work with an error, that a usb did not work.

3) tried:

pcie_acs_override=downstream

Now everything is in group 28 and the error is the same.

4) tried:

pcie_acs_override=downstream,multifunction

Yeah, the vm is starting fine, but the display blanks and turns off. There is no signal.

5) tried:

append initrd=/bzroot pcie_acs_override=id:10de:1ad8

The vm is starting again, but the display blanks and turns off. Still no signal.

Here is all the info that I think is relevant. Can I do something else to try to get it to work?
