I will soon install my Unraid server but before I would have liked to have your advice on the choice of ssd for everything (cache, vm etc.) I already have at home: 1x SSD SATA 128Go 1X SSD SATA 256Go 1X SSD SATA 500GO 1x SSD NVME 500Go My pool: 4X Hard Drive SATA 12To my use of Unraid: VM Gaming Plex Server +10 containers 2-3 VM linux 4-5 minecraft server My Configuration: CPU: Ryzen 9 3950X RAM: 64Go For now I was planning to do this: SSD SATA 250Go: VM Gagming SSD SATA 128GO plex server and containers SSD NVME 500GO: Cache SSD SATA 500Go for other (VM etc.) thank you in advance for your help 😃 Quote Link to comment
Jerome Posted June 6, 2020 Share Posted June 6, 2020 I would say use your NVME drive for your VMs, particularly your gaming VM. You dont really need NVME as a cache drive unless you are looking to transfer files to your system quickly but unless you are using a 10GB NIC you will not get any benefit with an NVME cache drive as a SATA SSD can easily handle gigabit transfers. If you are using plex dont forget to transcode to ram, you have plenty in that system. Quote Link to comment
