New Seagate HDDs Causing Various Errors - 6.8.3

Featured Replies

New to  Unraid...I think this post could go in Preclear support or hardware, but posting to general to see if I can narrow it down.

Background: Attempting to add 2x 8TB Seagate Ironwolf drives to my array (4x 4TB Seagate Ironwolf HDD in a Fractal Design 7XL case).  One is intended to be a parity swap and the other added to the array.  New server was running for a month with zero disk issues.

What I did: I installed the 2 new drives: mounted in the rack, ran a new SAS cable and power supply cable to HDDs.  Booted server up, unassigned devices recognized the disks, and I started a preclear.  3 hours into the pre-read, I received multiple read faults on the new drives, failed pre-clear, AND errors on all drives in the array and the parity drive got a red ball.  Using the forums, I determined it was probably a bad SAS cable and or/cable routing causing cross talk.  I ordered new SAS cable and power supply cable.

I removed the new SAS cable and power supply (left the new drives physically installed) and performed a satisfactory parity sync and my server returned to normal conditions.  The server ran perfectly for 5 days until I had time/parts to try again.

I replaced the new cables.  Deliberately ran the new SAS cable away from the other SAS cable attached to my 4x 4TB drives.  I checked all connections to ensure they were tight.  Upon reboot, all drives were green and unassigned devices again recognized the new drives.  I ensured all of my plugins were up-to-date.  I started pre-clear on the 2 new HDDs.  The drives made it a few more percent into pre-read, but still failed pre-clear.  This time, I received read errors on ALL FOUR drives in the Array.  I downloaded a diagnostic, rebooted the server and all errors cleared.  Next, I ran extended SMART reports for the new HDDs.  They passed with zero errors.

Is there something wrong with the drives?  Do I still have a cabling problem?  Any ideas as to why they fail preclear AND cause errors in other drives?

I've attached the diagnostic, the failed preclear report, and the passed smart reports.

Thanks in advance!

You're having issues with multiples disks on both Marvell controllers, those are not recommend for Unraid.
