Neither is AFP.  Best thing to do is rename at the source before transfer and get rid of that character.

The above is what I have been doing for all my movies.

I name most of my stuff with something like TITLE_OF_MOVIE_HERE.ISO

XBMC is smart enough to figure it out from there and so long as I do not use file view I do not see that above capital text stuff.

Exactly what I do, but with the occasional addition of the year to be able to tell the original from remakes:

THE_POSEIDON_ADVENTURE-1972.ISO

THE_POSEIDON_ADVENTURE-2006.ISO

Occasionally I'll name them so they group logically on my older media players (XBMC figures it out in most cases and I set up movie-sets for james-bond, star-trek, star-wars, etc.)

JAMES_BOND-1962-DR_NO.ISO

JAMES_BOND-1963-FROM_RUSSIA_WITH_LOVE.ISO

JAMES_BOND-1965-THUNDERBALL.ISO

JAMES_BOND-1967-YOU_ONLY_LIVE_TWICE.ISO

JAMES_BOND-1969-ON_HER_MAJESTYS_SECRET_SERVICE.ISO

Indeed, I do the same.  If I do a quick search and find a movie by the same name but with a different year I usually put the year in parens.  So it would be THE_POSEIDON_ADVENTURE_(1972).ISO; to each there own.

And for the James Bond movies I preface them all with 007_NAME_OF MOVIE_HERE.

I do exactly the same thing as the two listed up above. I use Ember Media Manager for my images and it more or less rights all the info to a .nfo removing the spaces and adding the images so it turns out looking very normal to the human eye. Also the reason for me using the .nfo file is any other machine I add to the network doesn't have to re-scrape any images since its all stored on the network.

I am new to this what is the importance of using the underscore and use just spaces.

Some utilities have issues when dealing with spaces, while the underscore character does not pose any such issues.

In my setup, I use spaces and parenthesis around the year and use a dash '-' in place of the colon because I know my clients XBMC properly handles it when doing information lookups.
