Client or Guest tools needed ??

Featured Replies

Hi,

Do I need client- or guest tools when using kmv on either windows or linux vm's

With virtualbox I need to install them using sh ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run --nox11 when using linux as stated in the virtualbox docs

Moving now from my windows server (with virtual box) to unraid which has kvm.

Bit confused since I cant find anything about that at all. I got 2 windows vm's and a linux vm using Q35 and 2 linux vm's using i440fx. I read that it was better use that - if it fails fall back to q35. The only reason the other 3 are q35 is that it was selected by default

So do i need client tools for linux/windows on q35/i440fx ?

Installing the client tools doesn't hurt, and adds in further features to the VM (like unRaid being able to hibernate the VM when it wants to shutdown).  The tools are on the virtio iso

is there a manual page somewhere ?
