January 3, 201115 yr Guys, This is what I am thinking about getting to build a server to serve my vast media collection (mostly HD and music). Can you tell me what I am missing and/ or if this is the right stuff? 1. COOLER MASTER Centurion 590 RC-590-KKN1-GP Black SECC / ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case Model #:RC-590-KKN1-GP 2. CORSAIR Builder Series CX430 CMPSU-430CX 430W ATX12V Active PFC Power Supply Model #:CMPSU-430CX 3. COOLER MASTER STB-3T4-E3-GP 4-in-3 Device Module Hardisk Cage Model #:STB-3T4-E3-GP 4. BIOSTAR TA880GB+ AM3 AMD 880G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard Model #:TA880GB+ 5. AMD Sempron 140 Sargas 2.7GHz Socket AM3 45W Single-Core Processor SDX140HBGQBOX Model #:SDX140HBGQBOX Im gonna get 1,2,3 now since I will need that no matter what. 4/5 assumes I cant find a MB and processor laying around somewhere (which I may). I have a 2 gb usb drive and computer memory somewhere around here and for right now, I dont need more than 6 drives (I can buy SATA cards later). I'm gonna get either Seagate 2 tb or WD caviar Green HDs... The hope is to get the SP3 working and WOL figured out once I get the system up and running. What else do I need? Will this stuff work? Thanks, mrbadss
January 3, 201115 yr Not sure where you are trying to get to in terms of array size. I would suggest a motherboard with two PCIe slots that are x4 or better and a larger PSU (600/650 single rail) to give room to grow.
January 3, 201115 yr Personally I would spec any UnRaid system to the max drives your case can take or your motherboard can handle (assuming your OK with a external HDD case). With that case you're looking at 12 (4 into 3 cages). Certainly over kill for only a 6 drive system. Motherboard, I'd look at equivalent Asus M4A88T-M 880G which has two additional PCI-e x1 slots and only a single PCI slot. PSU - CX400 is a better bet with 30A on the 12V rail vs 28A and proven good performer if you can get one. For 12 drives the CX430 PSU 12V is potentially maxed during startup. Motherboard will use DDR3 memory so you'll need some of that as well.
