Is there a specific reason why VFAT devices are treated as flash i.e. dont support spin down if they support it?

No, just something that didn't get changed from the latest updates.  Fixed in the next release.

When I got my Samsung 970 EVO NVME 2TB I set up my W10 VM with PASS THRU enabled using UD plugin.

I am now questioning whether I should have actually passed through the entire nvme controller instead for better performance.

My 4K r/w performance is not great using PASS THRU method so curious whether switching to controller passthru and using samsung nvme driver will actually help in this case? What do you think? Should performance be on par? I actually like using UD PASS THRU setting as I can still see nvme temp in the Unraid dashboard.

I switched from PASS THRU to passing through the entire nvme controller, installed the Samsung nvme driver and now speeds are identical more or less to bare metal performance. Seems the Samsung drivers really kick the drive in to gear.

Where do I set the spindown delay for individual disks? I cannot see this option anywhere.

That doesn't apply to UD disks.  UD disk time out is the global disk time out.

So how do I set a timeout of 5 minutes for my external HDD (sdd) ?

You can't.  My suggestion would be to be sure to synch your mountpoint and then spin the disk down using the UD command at the end of your script.

My Unraid log is filled with errors.  Im getting the same 2 errors every 4 seconds.  What is this about?  Everything on my server is working and I can access all my shares on my windows machine.  I stopped all my dockers and im still getting the errors.  I have NO remote iso points or SMB external mappings with Unassigned devicess.

Edit: Tried to restart the server and it just hung.  Even all log entries disappeared.  Something strange for sure was going on but after hol down the power button I did a forceful reboot and now the errors are gone.

Ignore previous post.  Your tmpfs was probably full.  The samba_mounts.cfg and iso_mounts.cfg files are copied from the flash when the UD plugin is installed and they probably got corrupted by a problem with your tmpfs. file system.

I just invoked mover and It worked

Post diagnostics.

Just curious, is the read/write speed counters supposed to work with the UD drives? I noticed these were added after I updated but they stay at zero for me. Not a problem, maybe I need to reboot? Or are they not fully implemented yet?

Yes, but on 6.9 RC1 and RC2 only.

Go to a command line and execute the following command:

 cat /tmp/unassigned.devices/config/samba_mount.cfg

and post the result.

cat: /tmp/unassigned.devices/config/samba_mount.cfg: No such file or directory

I have a tmp/unassigned.devices/config/ directory but there are no files inside.

Gotya, Waiting to update until they get the BTRFS speed regression issue sorted out.

That's the problem.  The files are missing.  You can fix this by clicking on the 'Refresh Disks and Configuration' icon (two arrows pointing at each other) on the UD page.

Ive done that, and also fixed a remote mapping I had in my Radarr docker container (Not sure if that matters) and it looks like the issue is resolved for now.  I do see 3 files now in that folder (2 are empty .cfg files) but the other unassigned.devices.cfg is populated.  Thanks.  I wonder why this happened.

That would probably do it.

The latest version of UD maps the remote shares to /mnt/remotes/.  You are encouraged to change your Docker Container and VM mappings to the new mount point.

If you can't do that, go the UD settings and set 'Legacy Mount Point Compatibility?' to 'Yes'.  Then unmount and re-mount the remote shares.  There will be symlinks created at /mnt/disks/ to the remote shares mounted at /mnt/remotes/.  You won't have to change any Docker Container or VM mappings.

That's fine, but Ext HDD/USB sticks will still be mounted as mnt/disks (Read Only option disabled) with exFAT formatted (yes, UA AND UA plus are installed).

Is this on purpose?

When USB-attached devices (USB stick, ext HDD) are mounted, then no files can be written to such external stores, eventhough permissions are set to rwx .

Also, cannot format disk any longer.

Switching to legacy support does not solve the problem.

Previous plugins did not have this issue.

What is solution for that issue?

Btw, the SMB mounted shares work just fine, and yes they are mounted as mnt/remotes.

Yes.

If by diagnostics you mean "LOG" from here, these logs are empty.

Are there other diagnostics?

No, we always mean

Go to Tools - Diagnostics and attach the complete Diagnostics ZIP file to your NEXT post in this thread.

I have a UD disk that I am running my dockers on.

I want to know if there is a way to create custom mount points and shares on the UD disk and control access via SMB users.

When I share the UD disk, it creates a public share at \\server\Patriot_Blaze_DE3F07580DC602009379\

I do not want it public, and I also don't want it named Patriot_Blaze_DE3F07580DC602009379.

There are a couple things I am hoping to do with this:

  1.  I want to be able to run an rsync cron job to back up the contents of the UD disk to /mnt/user/backup/docker
  2. I would like to rename the disk, if possible
  3. I want to be able to mount and share arbitrary directories within the UD disk, for example /mnt/disks/Patriot_Blaze_DE3F07580DC602009379/appdata/swag/www as \\server\www only visible to specific samba users
  4. I want to be able to mount shares to arbitrary directories within the UD disk, for example I want to mount /mnt/user/media (or \\server\media) to /mnt/disks/Patriot_Blaze_DE3F07580DC602009379/appdata/swag/www/media
  5. I want to be able to persist all of this

What would be the way to go about this?
