Unassigned Devices - Managing Disk Drives and Remote Shares Outside of The Unraid Array

Hi guys,

I got some used 3TB drives from my work and plugged them into my controller, but they won't show up so i can assign them to my array.

 

Any help is appreciated

This is a known issue in UD.  The dynamix.scsi.devices plugin changes the disks from ata to scsi.  UD should be handling this properly, but apparently something has broken it.  I can't fix it until I can get some hardware to test scsi attached disks as I don't have scsi disks.

 

The only fix for the moment is to remove the dynamix.scsi.devices plugin.

Can someone with scsi attached disks with the dynamix.scsi.devices plugin installed give me the output of:

ls /dev/

 

I think I see what might be happening with scsi disks not being recognized by UD.

I tried uninstalling dynamix.scsi.devices plugin, still not mountable. It shows size zero

Yes, your devices are showing zero size.

The devices got pulled from an old DELL EMC2 VNXe3150 san fra my work.

What sector size do you have showing in SMART for the devices is it 520 rather than 512?

This needs to be 512 for Unraid to see it correctly.

 

Take a look at this thread. sg_map will provide sd to sg mapping.

i have both plugins UD and UD+ Installed and it's worked before but a few months ago my unraid server had a power cut and I never remounted the drive as it wasn't needing anything form it . 

 

Drive works on windows as normal, 

Now i want to mount it back to my server but this happens 

 

Anyidea?

Take it to a PC and mount it, then unmount it cleanly.

You also need to go to the UD settings and set 'Debug Log Level' to 'None'.  You are generating excessive log messages.  This setting should only be used when requested for debugging.

 Thank you - i take it a flag was stuck on the drive, i had to restart server after i unmounted drive from windows,

Debug logging won't help in this situation and it just clogs the syslog with messages.

@dlandon Hi mate, I'm sorry to bother u again, but my issue is back with that warning message on the main page. I have uninstalled UD and UD+, then reinstalled them and still have the warning message.

Two questions:

1) Can create multiple shares on one disk? Ore one device - one share?

2) Are all shares from UD have the same security settings?

1) No.  One disk - one share.

You can probably manually add additional shares via editing the smb-extra.conf file on the flash drive appropriately

I wouldn't recommend doing that.  UD adds additional things to the share configuration such as the recycle bin if that plugin is installed, and some entries to deal with case sensitive names, and Mac OS interoperability.  It's also very easy to mess up samba shares when making manual entries.

 

A cleaner approach would be to partition the disk with multiple partitions on a PC.  When you put the disk back in Unraid, you then set each partition mount point for the share name you want, and you'll have multiple shares on one disk with all the extra things UD handles.  Down side is each share is limited by the partition size for the shares.

 

If you need more share control than that, use Unraid shares.

SQUID sent me here for this problem. I had to hard reset my unraid server because truenas went down before Unraid tried to shutdown (OK I forgot to unmount them before rebooting) and it hung the process.

Now I cannot mount any nsf shares on my truenas VM. Unraid sees them, tries to mount but will not mount.

You have multiple issues:

The network was not available on startup so remote shares could not be auto mounted.

You have another UD device with the same name.

This one looks to be duplicated in UD.

 

I'd remove all the NFS remote shares and re-enter them.
