[SOLVED] Unable to get passthrough on Gt710 to work

I purchased an MSI GT710 2GB DDR3 in order to use it with my Windows 10 VM, my system does not have a second GPU and there is no IGPU as my CPU is a Ryzen 5 2600, this should be possible from reading and watching spaceinvaderone's videos but all that happens is that the monitor goes blank and then reports no signal when I start the VM.

I have the GPU in the slot nearest the CPU and my HBA in the second slot, I have dumped the bios from the card and also tried the one from techspot to no avail.

What are my next steps?

edit: eventually the system log fills up with:

May 21 14:13:00 Tower kernel: pcieport 0000:00:03.1: AER: Multiple Corrected error received: 0000:00:00.0
May 21 14:13:00 Tower kernel: pcieport 0000:00:03.1: PCIe Bus Error: severity=Corrected, type=Data Link Layer, (Receiver ID)
May 21 14:13:00 Tower kernel: pcieport 0000:00:03.1: device [1022:1453] error status/mask=00000080/00006000
May 21 14:13:00 Tower kernel: pcieport 0000:00:03.1: [ 7] BadDLLP

and then crashes the entire system

So I've tried quite a few things to get this to work, non of which were successful.

I've added various options to my syslinux, it currently is append vfio-pci.ids=10de:128b,10de:0e0f pcie_aspm=off iommu=pt video=efifb:off initrd=/bzroot

I've updated my motherboard bios from 2006 to 2008 (which is currently the latest) to no avail.

The only consistent message I see is in the syslog: kernel: vfio-pci 0000:07:00.0: No more image in the PCI ROM

I've googled it until my eyes bleed but I cannot find what this message means or a solution.

😔

I've got this working now, but odd behaviour with virtio, if I mount the hdd.img file with SATA it gives me a display, if I mount with VirtIO, I get nothing.

Edit: Just changed the BUS value for the .img file to 0x04 and changed the graphics card back to 0x03 which it was set to in the working XML and that appears to work but then it doesnt detect any storage in the VM?

Here are the two XML's to compare:

Working

And it's working!

I used a bios from techpowerup but it crashed the host when it switched mode before entering windows, I found a raw dump of the bios here https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=290154.0 and stripped the header out using a hexeditor.

The other thing I've noticed is the VM templates get really messed up if you switch between XML and the UI, I ended up having to delete the template and creating it again, then making my XML edits and that's it.

So just to confirm, this is working with the following syslinux.cfg on my Asus TUF B450-PLUS running bios revision 2008

kernel /bzimage
append vfio-pci.ids=10de:128b,10de:0e0f pcie_aspm=off iommu=pt video=efifb:off initrd=/bzroot
