Skidrow69 Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 I am new to all this. Can someone explain in simple terms how to setup a cache and how do I save files to the cache to be written onto disks at night. Quote
peterg23 Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 (edited) Hi Skid. I recommend you take a look at SpaceinvaderOne's video tutorial on setting up a cache drive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ij8AOEF1pTU&t= Edited May 25, 2020 by peterg23 Quote
Skidrow69 Posted May 27, 2020 Author Posted May 27, 2020 Thank you for the suggestion. I have already done this, what is unclear to me is the following: I have a share set up on my cache, do I drag files that I want stored on the array to the shared file on the cache and then at the specified time the file is written to the array? Thanks Ken Quote
peterg23 Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 (edited) Currently my unRaid server is purely for archival storage. One of the shares created on my array is called Movies. In the share section , Movies has these options setup: Share Name --> Movies Allocation Method --> Highwater Use Cache --> Yes (Mover transfers files from cache to the array) Export --> Yes Security --> Secure When I send new movies to my Movies share they live on the cache until mover is invoked to move them. Note that when they are on the cache it "appears" that they are actually on the array. (Because my server is not on 24/7 I just manually invoke the mover script when required). Technically this is not correct although I get where you are coming from. It is the fact that the cache is included in the drives making up a Use Share that makes them appear under the share name.
