Kudos - UPS

Featured Replies

Unraid + UPS was fully tested this morning. One hour power outage.    After

hitting the time-on-battery limit, UNRAID cleanly shutdown automatically.

The UPS alarmed after the timer, then shut itself down until the AC power

returned.

The server BIOS is (intentionally) set to NOT automatically reboot on power

restoration.  Powered-ON via IPMI, and all came back up with no reported errors.

Kudos to Lime - this all worked perfectly.

One thing to consider is the recharge time on the UPS battery.  Depending on the situation, you may find that it is best to shut the server down about a minute after the power fails.  (In my location, I have discovered that if the power is out for thirty seconds, it will be out for, at least, a couple of hours!)

The problem is that if you substantially discharge the battery on the first powerage, it will take several hours to recharge it.  If you restart the server before the battery has had  time to recover, a second outage may trigger a unclean shutdown!

PS-- by situation, I mean that there was a Unraid user somewhere in the Philippines who (typically) had more powerages in a single day than I would get in a year!  As I remember, he was depending on his UPS to allow him to start up his standby generator...
