VPN Provider?

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a "good" VPN provider. I've been using airvpn, but they have only a very limited amount of possible locations/servers.

NordVPN isn't an option.

I'd like to have something which keeps my data private and offers a good variety of locations and is configurable with the usual vpn containers (aka supports openvpn).

Any Suggestions/Experience?

NordVPN are very good, just wish i knew how to incorporate it into unraid 🙄

NordVPN does not do port forwarding. That means torrent applications will not fully work, and can not be used with private trackers.

Specifically what traffic are you wanting to send through Nord?

Hi mate,

you read my mind , i signed up for airvpn today and installed binhex's sabnzbvpn and the installation has gone ok. i installed binhex sonarr as well and routed it threw sabnzbvpn. the only concern i have is that when i open the sab web gui the web address bar says not secure then my ip address and port 8080, but when i click on the spanner icon inside sab and select status then it gives me 2 random ip address for local and public ip, so maybe the not secure in the web browser is wrong??

Cheers

You mean the http not secure (because it's not https)? It's not wrong. The browser tells you that you are using http which is not secure compared to https. That's completely different from the kind of security you get from using a VPN.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply am new to unraid so its a bit of a steep learning curve. So i take it that if the vpn isn't working then you wouldn't be able to download anything from sabnzbvpn?

Cheers

Steve

What you said had nothing to do with Unraid.

If you install Sab on your Windows PC and access the SAB WebGUI through its http port, you will get the same warning about unsecured site. That's why Sab has another port (usually 8090) specifically for https access but then you will get a different warning because there is no cert for local IP addresses.

Just check that external the IP from the spanner button is the same as your VPN IP to make sure that it works. If the VPN connection stops working, the docker should not be able to connect due to the IP table rules.

I use https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/ and they work fine.  They also forward, but only from some sites.  They have docs on how to guide you.  Works great for me.

That will tell you which sites to use for whatever VPN solution you have in your setup.  You will need to follow the setup guide for whatever container you're using to configure the VPN client on your end.  This usually means hacking it on the command line, or configuring the setup file beforehand using Notepad or something on Windows and then overwriting the file of the same name on your container's VPN setup and restarting the container so it loads the new configuration.  Check the support threads for your VPN container of choice on further instructions.
