May 30, 20206 yr I am trying to setup my server for remote use and to share with a few friends/family. I've always heard going through a VPN would be the most secure method. However I don't want to provide Internet access, only my shares. Is there I way to limit what access you grant with a VPN or is there an alternative method? Thank you for any help!

So they will have access to your server without redirecting all their internet traffic trough VPN. Other two easy alternatives are WireGuard and Zero Tier. Look up on the internet how to configure every of them and be careful what you give access to. You can give them access to the entire network and thet may or may not be a bad idea.
