Question about using cache

Featured Replies

Hi there!

First of all sorry for the super generic title.  Wanted to do a quick sanity check on how I’m thinking of setting up my cache array.  I’m thinking of setting up a relatively large cache array of SSDs.  Thinking 8tb or 4tb mirrored.

I know the whole disk spin down thing is a bit contentious, but I’m in the spin down camp.  I was thinking of setting the mover to only run once a month figuring that new files are most likely to be accessed shortly after being added then super rarely accessed after that, for example new TV Shows.  This way I imagine I could have all disks spun down 99.9% of the time.  With a monthly mover and parity check it would likely result in one spin up a month for most months.

Anybody else have a set up like this?  Any foreseeable problems besides the initial cost for SSDs being a decent chunk?

Thanks!
