[Unraid 6.8.3] GPU passthrough question

Featured Replies

Hello,

I test Unraid with this config:

MotherBoard : type X58, ga-x58a-ud5

Proc : I7 975 extreme

GPU : RTX2070

My proc doesn't have VT-D support and X58 chipset normally have it. My Mobo officially, doesn't have. But I found a modded bios to enable it.

I know that GPU passthrough need IOMMU support and UNRAID show me IOMMU enabled in the webgui.

My question is, for GPU passthrough do I need VT-D support for the Proc AND the MoBo ? Or VT-D on Mobo is sufficient ?

For the moment all my tries failed for GPU support (I have the GPU Vbios etc ...) , I can launch a VM linux directly on my computer but only with software render ...

Thanks for your informations

CPU has to support it.    But, with a CPU that "old", even if it did support it (without the modded BIOS), you would more than likely run into a ton of issues with attempting to do any passthrough.  Save your hair on this project ;)

Ok thanks Squid, so it's not a bullshit from me, thanks for your concern about my hair but I'm afraid that it was too late before Unraid LOL.

I wait for an old Xeon Proc founded at good price that supports VT-d and compatible with my MoBo, maybe with the modded bios ...

For the price at worst I'll win 2 more cores.
