Back to back parity checks - why?

Featured Replies

I'm on 6.8.3 and I see that my system did a parity check on 5/29 then again on 6/1.

Both finished with no errors and they both took about the same time (18-19 hours or so).

My system usually does a parity check on the first of the month. Not sure why it did the extra one a few days earlier.

Where can I find why it did these so close to each other?

Other then the schedule one a parity check is done after any unclean shutdown.

Thanks Johnnie.

I don't think there's been an unclean shutdown of my system recently.

I have my machine on a UPS and I haven't shut it down recently.

Are unclean shutdowns logged somewhere that I can check?

It's logged at boot time as

Unclean shutdown detetced

But will not disappear after after a clean reboot

I looked at the log in the upper right corner of the Dashboard view and I don't see that message.

Any other areas to look?

You need o check the complete syslog (tools -> syslog) or post it.

Found it!

May 29 02:58:14 flores emhttpd: unclean shutdown detected

Looks like it had just finished updating plugins before this message.

Is it possible for a plugin to cause an unclean shutdown?

  • Community Expert

Possible but unlikely, at least with most plugins.
