June 11, 20206 yr I have the heard nothing but amazing things about unraid from folks, however my personal experience has been anything but amazing. For one thing, browsing the server thruogh windows explorer often is a painful experience. It will often take 2-6 MINUTES for a single folder to populate in windows explorer. Thats if explorer doesnt crash in the process. Moving files to the server is slow at best but I geuss thats the parity system? Meanwhile my Synology D918 no issues, its as if the server was with in my local tower... So my main computer is a windows 10 64bit with 32GB of ram, 500GB SSD, 1080 gtx card, and a 9700K CPU... the unraid is a 3570K with 32GB of ram, 970 GTX, z77 motherboard. populated with 5 brand new (shucked) WD 8TB externals, and a 10TB WD parity drive and a 500GB Samsung SSD Cache drive Synology works great... Unraid, not so much.... I get that due to the parity system writing files is slower, however browsing the folder hierarchy thruogh windows explorer shouldnt take FOREVER.... Especially when my synology's CPU is more crappy than the cpu in my phone, and is lickity split while also at the same time streaming to other devices in my house. my unraid version: Linux 4.19.107-Unraid x86_64 And the log file currently is complaining that it cant find files i moved myself (Again not realizing that the cache was full... so now its confused im confused, plus some files didnt copy over cause the mover thing seems to be rather retarded, so now ugh... I feel like i just wasted 2 days of moving files cause only have of it moved...
