mrbadss
I got a coolermaster case that was recommended here and its great so far except... I have a concern that wasnt mentioned to me when buying this case. I was PLAYING around with unraid prior to buying hardware on an old mediacenter PC from gateway. Cool case, but everything else sucked on that computer and its old and crappy. However, it had a power switch that when I was playing with unraid, I could press it and it would safely shutdown the system (saw this from the console). I dont plan to leave mine on the entire time, only when I want to access the media when I want (ie only when Im home). So, the old case had this cool power button that turned it on and turned it off... I could walk by, turn it on, watch my media, and then turn it off (working on WOL with this new MB to be even cooler) BIG QUESTION: How can I do that on this case where I press the button to shut it down? it doesnt seem to have a soft button. Can I get something to modify? I dont want to have to manually shutdown the server everytime from the web control panel. thanks! Reed Link to comment
mrbadss
oh one other point about this coolermaster 590 case that someone should point out (i got cheap and saved my butt). It COMES with a 4-3 drive bay in the case already. So, You only need to buy 2 other 4-3 bays if your going not hot swappable as I am... that's a $25 savings! someone should point that out in the hardware build. Reed Link to comment
Rajahal
The CM 590 has a power button, just no reset button. If your power button isn't working, then you probably have it hooked up to the wrong headers on the motherboard. I also highly recommend installing the Powerdown script as it does some other nifty things, such as saving a copy of your syslog to the flash drive. The included 4-in-3 drive cage is already mentioned in the Budget Box - US Version guide in the wiki. If you feel there is some other specific place where it makes sense to mention it, please let us know. Link to comment

Reed It is tied into the power button if you use unMENU to install it. The way to know for sure is to look in the /etc/acpi/acpi_handler.sh file and see if it is invoking /sbin/powerdown vs. /usr/local/sbin/powerdown The first is the powerdown package that does save the system logs and cleanly stops the server. The second, in /usr/local/sbin, is the one supplied by lime-technology. It does not save the system logs, it will not stop the array if a disk is busy. You can see the contents of the acpi_handler by typing cat /etc/acpi/acpi_handler.sh See this post for details on how to test if it will work when pressing the power button: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=6078.0 Remember... the ACPI handler must be enabled in your BIOS for any of this to work.
