TheBawse Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 Soon to be running out of space on my NAS. Currently have a mix of 4 and 6TB WD Black drives. My local computer chain near me has the 8TB WD Ultrastars on sale and they come out cheaper than getting a 6TB black at regular price. Wondering if anyone has had good luck with them? Thanks Quote
SirReal63 Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 I have 3 original HGST, a 500mb DeskStar from around 2005-2007, I don't remember exactly, and two 3TB UltraStars. They have been bulletproof and solid performers. I cannot speak to what has happened to them after WD acquired them, they may be the same high quality drive, and I would expect that, but I have not used any of the WD variant. 1 Quote
TheBawse Posted June 23, 2020 Author Posted June 23, 2020 Thanks. I had a few deskstars as well. They were very good. Quote
Jokener Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 I bought and shucked half a dozen WD MyBook 8TB drives for my server. They identify themselves as HGST Ultrastar and have worked fine for the last 6 months. Quote
