January 16, 201115 yr And how about a second "tmpfs" for the system logs... It would eliminate the fear of the syslog using all available RAM. This was discussed long ago, but never implemented. see here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=3352.msg29874#msg29874 http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=7085.0 Joe L.
January 19, 201115 yr Can't the existing RAM disk be used? It can, but it is not shared/merged in user-shares, and if you use too much, and it runs out, it will crash the server or cause it to terminate processes in an attempt to recover ram.
January 19, 201115 yr Author I am using always if possible an external syslog server, works great also with unRaid. Having a second tmpfs for syslog would be great though as it makes up for the stability of standard unRaid.

Might want to consider adding automounting of swap if it exists. The benefit of tmpfs is that it can be swapped out. The current initramrootfs cannot be swapped out, whereas a tmpfs on /var/log (or anywhere) can swap if needed.
