SMART test aborted with "Fatal or unknown error"

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I started to use UnRaid few months ago, I do love it. But yesterday, when I did regular disks SMART extended self-test, one of my data disk shows "Fatal or unknown error". However this disks is a quite new disk and looks pretty healthy(from SMART attributes read value). I did few trials but all end up showing same errors. All other my three disks(another 2 data disk and one parity disk) run through SMART test fine. Same cables used for the four disks.

Below is a screenshot for what I saw:

I attached the full SMART report and ask for help from you. Need to know what is going on and if the disk is really failing....

Thanks in advance!

Disk looks OK but it's not good that it can't complete a SMART test, if it's in warranty replace it, if not run a parity check or preclear read test to see if there are any read errors.
