I want to link two unraid servers using SFP+

Featured Replies

Just like the title says I would like to use a DAC cable and connect two unraid servers together to transfer files between them faster. I understand I wont be able to saturate that link withouth NVME drives but I would still like to try and accomplish this. Is this even possible? If so what do I need to do to connect them? I've seen spaceinvaders video on connecting an unraid server to a windows pc but thats not possible atm(location).

Yes.

Two SFP+ NICs (e.g. Mellanox ConnectX-2/3 and a cable.

Okay so I have this care to explain how to properly link them together within unraid? I put each into bridge mode and gave them static IP's. Is there anything else that I am missing? What would be the best way to share content between them? Thank you.

I don't use bridge, just have a different IP range for the 10GbE NICs and then connect using those IP addresses, can also still connect by gigabit if needed using the gigabit IP.

Also leave the gateway on the 10GbE NIC blank.

Gotcha, I had most everything set then just bridge = yes was incorrect. I changed that and things are working great thank you. One question what do you use to transfer files between servers? Thanks for the help.

Mostly btrfs send/receive and some rsync, both over SSH witch in itself is not great for speed, but still much better than gigabit.

Got it thank you.
