Is it possible to combine different Xeon Scalable...

Recommended Posts

Take care when choosing the second cpu.

One of my e5-2687w failed and I bought a new used one: it was the same e5-2687w differing only in stepping; first one was QB7R (quality sample), "new" one was the official SR0KG.

I read somewhere that stepping wasn't important but my setup was not booting, linux nor windows (linux complaining about syncing, windows about incompatible cpu bsod).

Finally only by replacing the QB7R with another used SR0KG I was able to boot again.

So my advice is to install the same cpus, stepping included.
