New config but same btrfs raid-0 disks

Featured Replies

What would happen if I have a RAID-0 btrfs cache pool of 2 disks -> Tools / New Config -> add back the exact same 2 disks to the new pool?

In particular, will Unraid try to balance it automatically in RAID-1 or will Unraid be able to detect that both disks used to be in the same RAID-0 arrangement and thus maintain the RAID-0 config i.e. with no data loss?

It will use the existing pool as is, as long as all members are assigned after the new config.

Can you help me double check that what I'm gonna do below is correct please.

I currently have a single-disk btrfs pool with existing data + a spare unformatted disk and I want to make a 2-disk RAID-0 pool without losing the existing data.

  1. Stop array to add unformatted disk to pool slot 2
  2. Start array, which should now say I need to format the slot 2 disk
  3. Tick format and let it format slot 2 disk
  4. Go to Main -> Cache and change the mode to RAID-0 and rebalance.

Seems too simple so not sure if I have missed anything. Thanks.

The device added to the pool will be added automatically and the pool converted to raid1, this is default behavior for a 2 device pool, after the balance finishes you can convert to raid0.
