WIN10VM slows down using USB device and onboard USB controller

Hello Everyone,

this is my first post... hopefully I haven't missed a search result and reposted. 😅

My hardware:

  • AMD Ryzenâ„¢ Threadripperâ„¢ 1920X Processor
  • Asrock Phantom Gaming 6 Motherboard

Following Spaceinvader One's video I used the VFIO-PCI CFG plugin and assigned two of my onboard USB3 controllers to my VM:

  • [09:00.3] USB controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] Family 17h (Models 00h-0fh) USB 3.0 Host Controller

  • [43:00.3] USB controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] Family 17h (Models 00h-0fh) USB 3.0 Host Controller

Why two? I found them by plugin in my keyboard in different USB ports and found out that they appear on different controllers or rather IOMMU groups? after I changed the port.

The issue:
When I plugin the Rode microphone into the computer -> VM slows down.

Specifically my USB mouse but also the windows UI while the gpu and cpu usage stays almost the same.

Additionally my "sound" keeps crashing (I assigned the onboard audio controller to my VM).

Precisely programs that provide audio (chrome with youtube open and discord) cannot detect my audio output anymore.

The Rode microphone can be used as both a input and output device.

Also, when I use my Elgato hdmi capture card my vm also slows down, but my "sound" doesn't crash.

(I don't know if it is the software's fault tho. I haven't tested this before I switched using a VM as my everyday main computer)

The issue is reproducible and if I assign the USB manually by using my front IO port everything works perfectly fine.

(Edit the VM -> USB Devices -> Check Rode Microphone and Update)

Please find attached my VM.xml and diagnostics file if somebody needs that. :)

I am looking forward to you suggestions!

Kind regards
Vedran

p.s.:
Maybe it is just my hardware? If someone could recommend a better motherboard I am happy to hear recommendations.
