pras1011
I have 10 hdds part of the array and I have 5 hdds that are not. They are all in the same chassis as I want to keep them together. After the 10 hdds have spun down, every now and then I hear a very quiet hdd type noise which only lasts a few seconds. I disconnected all of the fans and I can here some spinning type noise. I then power down and pull out the 5 unused hdds and then check for noise after the 10 hdds have spun down. No noise! Is there a way of spinning the 5 hdds down? Link to comment
BRiT
Yes. You can manually issue a spindown command using hdparm assuming your controller and drives support it. Use your appropriate drives in place of /dev/sd# below. To sleep your drive: hdparm -Y /dev/sd# To check the current power mode: hdparm -C /dev/sd# Link to comment
