Hi all

Just dropping in to say 'Hi'. I was looking for a replacement for my Synology DS216J and was thinking of going for the DS220+ but when looking at the cost was thinking 'there must be something else' and well, here I am!

After watching a load of @SpaceInvaderOne's tutorials I decided Unraid was the solution I needed so over the last couple of weeks I sourced some parts and I now have Unraid up and running. Just beginning to scratch the surface on how much Unraid can do but so far, well impressed!

The replacement for the DS216J now consists of:

CPU - AMD Ryzen 3200G

RAM - 16GB Corsair (2x8GB) Vengeance LPX DDR4 running at 3000MHz via XMP profile

Motherboard - Gigabyte B450M DS3H Motherboard

Cache - 240GB WD Green M2

HD - Storage / Parity - 2x WD Red 3.0 TB

Case - Fractal Design Define Mini C

It will be used for backing up from my main PC (and then from the Unraid server to the cloud probably using RClone), web server (LetsEncrypt I expect) and then will also probably look at Plex (the DS216J just wasn't up to that) and having a dabble with some VMs as well.

Huge amount of information on the forums, so thanks for all the helpful tips and tricks. Looking forward to getting more involved.

I started something like you with a simple 2x2tb raid HDD setup in my PC more than 10 years ago but now i have 3 unraid server with lots of HDDs.

I was also introduced to the docker through UNRAID & the possibilities of hosring your own servers & services are endless.
