Fropwns
Hi all, I am getting closer, as I (we) await the Covid-effect on shipping, to having my parts to assemble my unRaid/Plex server. Below are the parts I plan on using: PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/M2DMsk CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 50.5 CFM CPU Cooler Motherboard: ASRock B550 Steel Legend ATX AM4 Motherboard Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 CL15 Memory Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 CL15 Memory Storage: SanDisk SSD PLUS 1 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage: Western Digital Red 4 TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive Storage: Western Digital Red 4 TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive Storage: Western Digital Red 4 TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive Storage: Western Digital Red 4 TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti 8 GB FTW2 GAMING iCX Video Card Case: be quiet! Silent Base 801 ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply Custom: APC BX1350M Back-UPS Pro 1350 VA 810 Watts 10 Outlets Uninterruptible Custom: Be Quiet! 140MM HS Custom: Be Quiet! 140MM HS Custom: Be Quiet! 140MM HS My plan, and I am unsure it will work, is that I had hoped to setup unRaid as the base for a new home server that I am building. I would use it to serve as a NAS for my documents, etc, while also setting up Plex on it for my family's media. As such, and after reading several guides, I decided it would be best to have a cache drive for unRaid. But, do I also need a separate one for Plex's metadata? I am sure this is a basic question, but before I finish assembling and setting this thing up, I would rather know now than later and have to add a drive afterward. Gragorg
I run all appdata including Plex metadata off one cache drive. The same drive will also caches my user shares. Quote Link to comment
kayjay010101
Can I ask why you went for 4x4TB drives instead of going with something like 2x8TB? The 4TB drives will draw more power overall, take more space, and you're limited to only 4TB if you want to have parity protection. Quote Link to comment
