Using unRAID with a switch

Right, installed 4.6 and seem to have it up and running with only one issue so far and I hope someone can help.

I have assigned a fixed IP address to unRAID (192.168.1.104) and my router is 192.168.1.1. With unRAID connected directly to the router I have no issues at all. I can access the web GUI, telnet, view the shares on Windows Explorer etc.

When I attached unRAID to my LinkSys/Cisco 1000Mbit switch I get nothing. No lights on either the PC mobo network port or the switch. I've assigned the switch an IP address (192.168.1.87) on the network just in case this made a difference, but it didn't. I have another PC connected to this switch and everything seems fine so I doubt it's broken.

The only thing I can perhaps think of is that unRAID doesn't support 1000Mbit network speeds on my motherboard (Abit IP-35-Pro).

I'd prefer get this sorted before I start copying over all my movies. It might take ages at 100Mbits.

Try a different cable.  Some older cables will not with at 1000Mbit speeds.

Switches do not usually have an IP address of their own (unless they are a managed switch)  But no lights on the router seems to indicate a problem with the cabling.

Agree with Joe L. No lights on either end suggest no physical connection. Try new cable or port on the switch

If the switch is managed (hinted at by the fact you gave it an IP address) check that the port you're plugged into on it is enabled.
